Follow The Reader points out that whether or not you believe that Amazon's fail is a glitch, they still massively dropped the ball on this.
An enormous shitstorm of angry customers explodes all over the internet and Amazon's official response is... Canned letters and one person saying LOLglitch when poked hard enough.

Powell's Books takes the time to comment, showing good PR and jumping on the marketing opportunity of waving their "look, we're not that stupid!" flag. I've been to Powell's Books' physical location several times, as I used to live in Portland. I highly recommend them for people looking for alternatives to Amazon.

Amazon fail
Dear Amazon,
If you do not correct this "glitch" (1), I will not buy anything from you in the future. Consider the hundreds of dollars I've dumped into you so far, and count the number of letters you're getting from people who share my opinion. I'm sure you can do the math.

Dear Author explains why this is a big fucking deal.
Jane also has a form letter you can send and a petition you can sign. Protips from elsewhere suggest using the form letter as a base to write a more personalized letter. It's easier to ignore 40,000 of the exact same letter than many similar, yet unique angry letters.
The LA Times does not approve.

And be sure to hit Google and see how our pet "Amazon Rank" page is doing in the wild.

(1) I'm less inclined to believe that this is a glitch in their code, as they say, and more to believe it's a glitch in their thinking.

(2) Congrats Twitter on getting my attention for the first time. I knew you existed, but was kinda ignoring you before this.

Deathly Hallows
I just finished reading Deathly Hallows.

What the HELL JKR?

I thought HBP was bad. But that just read like a fanfic. This read like half a dozen different badfics trying to be written at the same time!

And the deus ex machina main plot device? I nearly dry-heaved.

I'm certainly AUing the fuck out of any future fanfics I write for this series. I refuse to validate such a stupid idea by actually using it.

I threw the book across the room when I was through with it. It made a very satisfying thump.

Way to fail, JKR. I am never going to buy or read any books you write in the future. Ever.

Future story ideas.
Here's a collection of a few of the story ideas I plan to write in the future. Many of these will be vague to avoid anyone else writing my ideas before I get around to them.

The ideas, in no real order. May contain spoilers.Collapse )

Cat Cat Wizard : 14 - Quirrell needs to change his garlic
Okay, I'm kind of drowsy right now, so these author's notes may not be completely coherent... But whatever. You don't care about the ANs, just the fanfic. And yes, I am frequently drowsy when I write my ANs and post these. I tend to do it when I've either just woken up, or when I've been awake over 12 hours. It doesn't really matter, since I get the fanfic edited after I write it. That minimizes the typos that will be there, curse my dyslexic brain.

Does anyone else find it sadly ironic that I, who have dyslexia, can spell it properly with ease, but so few people online who fake having it are able to?

And I really do have dyslexia. Medical diagnosis and all. I thing it's really sadly ironic that I spell better than most people on the web. But then, I try harder. It sucks that in a medium where virtually all communication is through text, most people don't seem to care if they type like idiots. Do they even realize that since their writing is all I see of them, I judge them on it?

Bah. I'm getting ranty. It would help if I ate something and had a nap... I'll do that in a bit. For now? Chapter posting!

Here we go...

Story summary:
Infant Harry is taken from the Dursleys' front step by a strange man, and is raised away from the wizarding and muggle worlds. Now he's returning to attend Hogwarts. Smile, wizards, smile. He can smell fear.

Cat Cat Wizard : 13 - Pretentious title involving Morpheus
What's this? What's this? Chapter 13? Could it be true? Am I back? I am! I am! Delight that your periodic fix of non-sucky fanfic has returned.

I've been up about 24 hours now, so I make no promises for coherency or lack of typos in my author's notes this chapter. Don't worry about the chapter itself, though. I wrote it when I was more awake, and it has been run by the editor.

This is my first chapter having my grandmother edit instead of my mother. Hopefully there won't be a terrible amount of difference while I get her trained to cover everything she thinks doesn't work even a little bit. Working on it.

Anyway, you want me to shut up and give you the chapter, and I'm feeling charitable right at the moment, so here:

Story summary:
Infant Harry is taken from the Dursleys' front step by a strange man, and is raised away from the wizarding and muggle worlds. Now he's returning to attend Hogwarts. Smile, wizards, smile. He can smell fear.

In the first chapter:
McGonagall received an interesting letter from the boy-who-lived, who'd been missing for roughly ten years. Apparently, he'd be more than happy to attend Hogwarts, if a few minor requests of his were granted.

Cat Cat Wizard : 12 - Dancing with the wood nymphs
Oh man, I got stuck for an annoyingly long time in the first scene of this chapter. Well, I'm over the block now, and I finished the chapter. It's not as long as I wanted, but it ends in a good place for a chapter end.

So anyway, here we go.
